The Importance of Vision and Wellness
How Great Lakes Vision Rehabilitation is helping patients achieve wellness.
Our vision is not just a sense, it's a vital part of our well-being. To optimize our visual system, we need to consider many factors, including screen time, diet, glasses, natural viewing, and visual hygiene. At Great Lakes Vision Rehabilitation (GLVR), we aim to raise awareness about the crucial role vision plays in our overall wellness and how we can take steps to improve it.
How often do we think about the lighting, or color of the paint in and around our home or office? These are environmental factors that can assist in boosting our mood and health through visual processing. Light and color have been well-studied and researched for human health, as light is processed through the eyes and communicates with many different brain areas. Choosing the proper lights and using select paint colors around our home or office can be helpful.
Screen time is another major concern with visual hygiene today. Proper screen time use can enhance sleep, mood, and concentration. There is a growing body of evidence researching the negative effects of screen time, and proper use of it is important (see the vision cheat sheet).
At GLVR, our goal is to provide the best visual system possible to all our patients. Our rehabilitation clinic is staffed with experts working to improve the underlying issues and manage visual symptoms. We treat a wide range of conditions, with symptoms that may include headaches, skipping lines with reading, poor comprehension, double vision, light sensitivity, and more.
Our team works with patients of all ages, striving to restore or improve vision in those with a developmental vision disorder, brain injury (i.e., stroke or traumatic—including concussion) related symptoms, strabismus, and those struggling with sports, among others.
If you are experiencing vision-related symptoms that are affecting your wellness, we are here to support you. Please contact our office to speak with our patient care coordinator,
who will guide you through our evaluation process.
Don't let vision issues hold you back. Take the first step towards better vision today!
